The ACA offers two types of financial assistance: premium tax credits that lower your monthly payment, and cost-sharing reductions (CSRs) that lower your deductible and copays.
Premium tax credits are based on your household income relative to the federal poverty level. Under current law, households earning up to 400% FPL — and even above in some cases — may qualify. In 2025, about 94% of Florida Marketplace enrollees received financial help.
Cost-sharing reductions are only available on Silver tier plans for households earning below 250% FPL. If you qualify for CSRs, enrolling in a Silver plan is almost always the best financial decision — your out-of-pocket costs can be dramatically lower even if the premium looks similar to a Bronze plan.
Based on federal poverty guidelines. An agent can calculate your exact subsidy amount.
All four tiers cover the same essential health benefits — the difference is how costs are split between you and the insurer.

The ACA Marketplace (also called the Health Insurance Exchange) is where Florida residents can shop for and enroll in health coverage. Plans must cover 10 essential health benefits and cannot deny coverage for pre-existing conditions. Florida uses the federal marketplace at HealthCare.gov. Over 2.7 million Floridians enrolled in a Marketplace plan in 2025.
You may qualify for a premium tax credit (subsidy) if your household income is between 100% and 400% of the federal poverty level — or above 400% under the enhanced subsidies in effect through 2025. In 2025, the average subsidized Floridian paid around $67/month after their tax credit. An independent agent can run your exact numbers for free.
Cost-sharing reductions are extra savings available only with Silver plans for households below 250% of the federal poverty level. They lower your deductible, copays, and out-of-pocket maximum — sometimes dramatically. If your income qualifies, a Silver plan with CSR can have out-of-pocket costs similar to a Gold plan at a Silver premium.
Open Enrollment runs November 1, 2025 through January 15, 2026 for coverage starting January 1, 2026. If you enroll by December 15, your coverage starts January 1. Enrolling between December 16 and January 15 starts coverage February 1.
